The complimentary bread and butter served at the beginning of the meal has become somewhat iconic, garnering praises for its softness and comforting nature.

While Gandy Steak & Bakery may have some areas that show signs of age, the overall experience is enhanced by its rich heritage and loyal following. If you are seeking an authentic Jakarta dining experience wrapped in a warm embrace of nostalgia, Gandy is a classic choice that should not be missed. Book a table and prepare yourself for a culinary experience that combines taste, tradition, and timeless charm.

Always love coming to this place, not only because of the food but also the nostalgic feeling that it brings. Gandy in Menteng has been around for more than 4 decades, and it hasn’t changed a bit. It has a small bakery on the ground floor and a big restaurant adjacent to it and on the 2nd floor. It’s normally quite busy in the weekends, but can easily do walk-ins. Since the building is located right on the main street, it offers valet parking service. Starting the meal service, got a complimentary dinner roll which I super love. The bread is soft & pillowy and still warm, which goes well with the butter on the side. I also got Onion Rings & Garlic Bread for starters. Both were done nicely, but for me, I would prefer the garlic bread to be more toasted. Portions are heft and can easily shared by 4-5 people. As for the main course, I always & always go for the classic. A combo of fried chicken and beef steak ala Gandy served with Gandy butter sauce or mushroom sauce. The fried chicken was nicely seasoned & fried until golden brown. The chicken is still juicy and got a nice crunch from the breading. As for the steak ala Gandy, the meat is tender and juicy, and well seasoned. For the sauce, either one is always good and I just normally choose as per my liking that day. The mains is served with a huge serving of potatoes of our choice and steamed veggies. To finish it off, got the Chocolate Milkshake which is such a classic. The taste remained the same since i was a kid. The team is also very attentive and the food came quite fast. As for the bakery, I always go for their dinner rolls and Roti Keset. The breads are nice & soft, and still done the way it has been done for ages. Definitely going to be coming back for more!!

Old steak house that is survive many generations. Ambience is vintage but nice. They serve bread and butter for compliment, bread is soft. It happen we buy some in their bakery. Steak is good, have 3 sauces to choose. Have side dishes of mashed potatoes/french fries and some veggies. Serving time is bout 15 minutes. Overall taste is good. Parking space is limited.

A great luxury steak meal! Price is quite hefty but the place speaks old luxury. The staff is quite lacking and takes a while to respond, and the place is slightly run down and terribly managed, lacking utensils on several tables and others left uncleaned. The combination steak was wonderful with a juicy beef steak, and a wonderful crispy chicken steak, nicely breaded and not too thick.

Always coming back to this place for the comfort. It’s the kind of steak and atmosphere that feels ‘jadul’ yet homey at the same time. Their warm dinner rolls with butter are to die for!

If you're looking for a steakhouse with that old-money charm, this place delivers a timeless, authentic vibe. The warm glow from the orange lamps adds a comforting and slightly nostalgic touch, making the whole dining experience feel exclusive yet relaxed. It’s definitely not your usual modern spot—so it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, especially for the fast-paced or loud crowd (sorry, Yanks!). Orrdered their Australian sirloin and tenderloin steaks, plus a chicken steak combo, and started with the Gandy Soup. The soup was a pleasant surprise—rich and spicy, with a bold flavor that kicks in just right. As for the steaks? Quality cuts, well-prepared, and satisfying to the last bite. Of course, all that flavor comes with a price tag

A classic, old-school Indonesian steakhouse. The complimentary bread, butter, and pickles are iconic and arguably the best part of the meal. There is also a bakery downstairs that sells the signature bread. This is an excellent venue for the whole family.

It always brings back good memories every time I visit Gandy. The vibe is always those of old times when everything seems to always be OK. It's ability to keep and maintain the vibe is an important selling advantage over other competitors. I ordered fried onion rings and AUS Prime Steer Sirloin for lunch. I enjoyed the onion rings with the famous Gandy bread roll. The combo of soft buttery bread and crispy savory onion rings was surprisingly really tasty. The sirloin steak was thick and properly cooked. I enjoyed it with the mushroom sauce and a touch of hot sauce. The meat was juicy and relatively tender although I think it could've been better if the meat was a bit more tenderized. There were quite a bit of chewiness from the tendon on some parts of the meat. Overall I think I had a good lunch at this outlet. It is recommended to ask the waiters if you want to get very tender steak for you or your kids. Other than that, enjoy the Jakarta's legendary steakhouse!

Absolute classic and classy steakhouse, indonesian style. Love their welcome bread as always and its live music. Steak has that nostalgic taste and the pickled shallots bring so much comfort. Price wise quite affordable for its ambience and services. Steak ala gandys is the cant go wrong choice in this establishment
